One well-planned filming day can produce 15 to 20 assets: a hero film, short cutdowns, vertical edits, single moments, stills, loops and behind-the-scenes. That's enough to publish something every few days for a month. It all comes from planning every asset into the production from the start.
Why the filming day is where the value is
Most of a production budget goes into getting everything in one place at one time: the crew, the people on camera, the location, the gear. Once that's happening, filming a few extra minutes costs very little.
A second production later means paying for all of it again, which is why we plan everything into the first one.
What one filming day can produce
| Asset | Length or format | Where it's used |
|---|---|---|
| Hero film | 1 to 3 min, horizontal | Website, YouTube, launch, presentations |
| Cutdowns | 30, 15 and 6 sec | Paid social, pre-roll |
| Verticals | 9:16, 15 to 60 sec | Reels, TikTok, Stories, Shorts |
| Single moments | 5 to 15 sec | Organic social, LinkedIn |
| Quote clips | 10 to 30 sec with captions | LinkedIn, carousels, recruitment |
| Stills | 10 to 30 photos | Website, press, email, social |
| Loops | 3 to 8 sec, silent | Website headers, email banners, retail screens |
| Behind the scenes | 30 to 60 sec | Social, internal comms |
From one day, that's roughly 15 to 20 publishable pieces, not counting the stills.
What a month looks like
| Week | What goes out |
|---|---|
| Week 1 | Hero film launch on website and YouTube, 2 to 3 stills, a 30 sec cutdown |
| Week 2 | Two verticals, one quote clip on LinkedIn |
| Week 3 | Behind-the-scenes reel, a stills carousel |
| Week 4 | 15 sec cutdown as a paid ad, one single-moment post, website loop goes live |
How we plan for it
It's all settled in pre-production. Before every filming day, we map out:
- The deliverables list. Every asset, its length, its format and where it will run.
- Vertical coverage. Framing wide enough to crop to 9:16, or a second camera filming vertical.
- Stills time. A dedicated photographer, or time set aside in the schedule.
- Extra B-roll. Details, hands, textures, the space before and after.
- Interview questions for social. Short, quotable answers that stand on their own.
- Behind the scenes. Someone on the crew capturing the making-of.
- Usage rights for every channel. Releases and music licences covering paid, organic and web.
Example: One filming day of employee stories
Picture a story film for a mid-size company, shot in a single day across its workplace. It follows three employees from different teams, in their own words, doing the work they do every day.
| Asset | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Hero film | Three people, three roles, one shared reason they show up, told in their own words |
| Employee profiles (3) | A 60 sec film on each person, for the careers page and LinkedIn |
| 30 sec cutdown | The rhythm of the workday, ending on the brand line |
| 15 sec ad | One strong moment and one line from an employee |
| Recruitment clip | What it's actually like to work there, for job posts and hiring campaigns |
| Verticals (3) | A standout moment from each person's day |
| Quote clips | Short, captioned lines on what the work means to them |
| Stills (20) | Portraits, hands at work, the team, the space |
| Behind the scenes | The crew working alongside the team |
One day, about 15 videos and 20 photos. A month of posts across brand, social and recruitment, all from the same true story.
What this means for your budget
One production covers far more than one film. The brand story, the social calendar and often the careers page all come from the same day, with the same look and the same message.
Seen that way, the cost sits across 15 to 20 pieces of content rather than one.
The Brand Film Budget Guide breaks this down by project size.
How we approach it at Studio Propel
Every Studio Propel project is built to carry more than one film. Before a camera rolls, we sit down with your team and map the hero film, the cutdowns, the verticals and the stills against where each one will run and when.
- One story, many formats. The hero film leads, and every shorter piece comes from the same real moments, so the whole month looks and feels like one brand.
- Real people, real places. We film where the work actually happens, with the people who do it. No actors, no staged moments.
- Small crew, close access. People act like themselves when the set doesn't feel like a set, and that's what makes the short clips hold up on their own.
- Delivered ready to post. Every asset arrives sized, captioned and labelled for its channel, along with a suggested rollout across the month.
You can see the approach in our work for Cadillac Fairview, Rakuten Kobo and ÜNDA Movement.
FAQ
How many assets can you get from one filming day?
Usually 15 to 20 videos plus 10 to 30 stills, if the deliverables are planned before filming.
Do we need a separate filming day for vertical video?
No. We frame for both, or run a second camera filming vertical on the same day.
Does planning for more assets cost more?
A little more on the day, for stills time, a second camera or extra edits. Far less than a second production.
How far ahead should deliverables be planned?
In pre-production, before filming is scheduled. Adding them afterward usually means missing shots.
Can we use the footage later for new campaigns?
Yes, if usage rights in releases and music licences allow it. We clear them for every channel up front.
Won't a month of posts from one film feel repetitive?
Not if each piece has its own job: the hero tells the story, verticals show moments, stills set the mood, quotes carry the message.
