This year, every platform started asking brands for the same thing.
Episodes.
Lately, it feels like every platform is nudging brands in the same direction. More and more brands are experimenting with episodic content, from short dramas to documentary-style shows. The message is clear. The one-off post is losing its grip, and the series is taking its place.
I've been thinking about this a lot, because we've been living inside it. At Studio Propel, we've been making All Creatives, a documentary series built on one simple belief: everyone is a creative. Every episode, a different person. Every episode, the same idea we keep coming back to.
Making it has taught me more about brand storytelling than any single film we've produced.
Why Series, Why Now
For years, the goal in marketing was to be seen. Post more, be everywhere, stay visible. Today, the goal is different. It's to be returned to.
Platforms now reward the content people come back for, not just the content they scroll past. A single film can make someone feel something once. A series gives them a reason to come back and feel it again.
But here's what I'm noticing. A lot of branded series right now are just ads chopped into parts. Same message, more episodes. Audiences can tell. They always can.
A series isn't a longer ad. It's a world people choose to visit.
What Making All Creatives Taught Me
Building a series from scratch forced us to think differently about story. Here's what stuck with me:
- A series needs a belief, not a topic: All Creatives isn't about filmmaking or design or music. It's about the belief that everyone is a creative. That we were all created to create. Every episode is a new way of proving it. A topic eventually runs out. A belief keeps giving.
- Listen first, then shape the story: We film each episode in two parts. The first shoot is about listening. We ask questions, follow their day, and let them talk. The second shoot is built around a creative theme we find in those answers. The story isn't forced onto them. It comes from them. Brands can do the same with their customers, their team, and their community.
- Consistency is a craft choice: The look, the pacing, the sound, the way each episode opens. These small decisions are what make a series feel like a world rather than a playlist.
- The people are the hero: Nobody watches All Creatives for us. They watch for the creatives. When a brand steps back and lets its people lead, the brand becomes the place where those stories live.
- One series, many moments: Each episode becomes Shorts, stills, conversations, and eventually events and community. A series isn't more content. It's the source more content can come from.
My core learning is simple: "A film makes people feel something. A series makes them feel it again."
Where Brand Films and Series Meet
At Studio Propel, we think of a series as brand films that share a world. Same craft, same care, a longer relationship.
All Creatives, one of our Originals, is where we explore the series format on our own terms. Brand films are where we bring that same thinking to the brands we work with.
If you're thinking about a series for your brand, here's where I'd start:
- Start with a belief your brand already holds.
- Find the people who prove it.
- Build a format you can repeat, with room for each story to breathe.
- Commit to a cadence and keep it.
- Sell less. Earn the return.

The Opportunity Ahead
Right now, everyone is racing to make episodes. But the brands that win won't be the ones with the most episodes. They'll be the ones people actually look forward to.
Because a film gets you remembered.
A series gets you missed.
